A computer virus is a program that can infect a computer. They are often downloaded without the user's permission or knowledge. Computer viruses are malicious, damaging computer settings, memory, running error messages, and destroying data.

Computer viruses usually spread through email attachments, rogue websites, networks, phishing schemes, instant messaging, and fake anti-virus software.

Viruses spread most often through email from friends, family and co-worker. You should always run an anti-virus program while checking email.

How To Know If You Have A Computer Virus

• Someone tells you they got an email from you, that you didn't send
• Your computer is taking awhile to turn on
• Your computer programs crash, and restart
• You get error messages
• Applications/Programs don't work correctly
• Disks or disk drives aren't available
• Your computer stops responding
• Documents and pictures are missing
• Redirection to fake websites
• Internet access is slow when browsing

Our Virus Removal Process

Generally, when your computer becomes infected with a virus, there are two possible solutions.

1) Anti-Virus software scans to eliminate malware - Cost $89

Total Time To Complete : 4 hours

You can remove the virus using special antivirus software and/or other security utilities. This method is often very time consuming, and doesn't necessarily guarantee the removal of the virus. Or, you can bring your computer to our store and let us run all the utilities and anti-virus tools to effectively remove all the malware (see above) from your computer system.

• Sometimes however, the infection is sufficiently deep and embedded in the operating system. In this situation, we generally do not recommend this method, as it does not ensure virus removal and can often be a waste of time. Instead we recommend the solution below.

2) Backup Data, OS Install and Restore Data - Total Cost: $99 to $119.

Total Time To Complete : 6 to 12 hours.

• We can back up your data and reformat your entire computer system. This ensures complete removal of the virus, and is by far the more appropriate virus removal solution. We can get your computer up and running like new, within 6 to 12 hours, depending on the amount of data to be saved. We will complete the following tasks:

A. Save/Backup your data
B. Clean and format your HDD
C. Install Windows software
D. Install all hardware drivers
E. Install all Windows utilities
F. Register your Windows license with Microsoft
G. Copy/Restore your saved data.
H. Close and test your system

• O/S installation costs $99 and can take 4 to 6 hours
• Data backup and restore can take an additional 2 to 6 hours, depending on the amount of data. The cost can range from $20.
  
• If you do not already have one, we strongly recommend installing an anti-virus software that will prevent virtually all, but not 100% of malware, from becoming resident on your machine.

We can install a Norton Anti-Virus package for a total cost of $49.
